One of our (very) favorite restaurants around Les Baux-de-Provence
Iconic destinations
Some restaurants embody this deep love for a region more than others. Le Relais du Castelet, just a few kilometres from Arles and Les Baux-de-Provence, is one such place. A former hunting lodge nestled between scrubland and olive groves, Le Relais du Castelet captures the soul of Provence, and the taste of Jean-Baptiste Bert, a committed chef (his kitchen garden nearby and his ability to source exceptional regional produce bear witness to this). At the restaurant, children can play all over the surrounding countryside, while parents sit at the outdoor bar before sitting down to lunch.
At lunchtime, you'll be seated under the large mulberry tree. We enjoy the shade as much as the few rays of sun that sneak through. That day, we were treated to an array of starters to share, including clams in a savoury garlic bath and a terrine of farm pig with hazelnuts and pickles. To continue: a perfectly cooked monkfish tail, favouilles jus (small grey Mediterranean crabs), impeccable artichokes en barigoule and pommes grenaille. A cheese break with a divine picodon cendré from Maison Vergne. Then a fresh and happy finale: strawberry salad and coconut ice cream. Ideal for large family gatherings, or with friends. A real favourite.
