The unique and vibrant art curation of Le Cœur du Ferret

Working alongside Joséphine Fossey and her team, Thibaud Elzière and Robin Michel have developed a unique art curation for the fifth Iconic House property, Le Coeur du Ferret. A curation that bridges the gap between Cap Ferret and Mexico, inspired by a meeting between a key figure in twentieth-century French art and an icon of Mexican painting.

Summer 1918. The Mexican painter Diego Rivera, world-famous for his murals, was invited by his friend André Lhote, a French artist representing the Cubist movement, to spend the summer on the Bay of Arcachon. Accompanied by his wife, the artist Angelina Beloff, and the Danish sculptor Adam Fischer, he travelled to the village of Piquey. The discovery of this enchanting place reminded him of his native land: the wooden jetty, the yuccas so similar to the agaves of Mexico. Then a man dressed in traditional Mexican costume began to sing in a typical Veracruz accent: a surprise prepared by his friends Jean Cocteau and Marguerite Lhote. This environment inspired several of his paintings.

At Le Cœur du Ferret, Iconic House continues this Franco-Mexican complicity and the parallels initiated by Diego Rivera with a singular house of diverse influences and assertive eclecticism. It's a dialogue between two cultures, a blend of contemporary aesthetics and traditional elements, local nods and exoticism, vibrancy and lightness. The collection of almost 40 works of art, some commissioned for the project, reflects a certain 'poetic imagination' characteristic of Luis Barragán's work, exploring matter, form, colour, light, space and landscape.A structured, refined and sensitive approach, a desire to enchant and encourage the gradual discovery of a space and the contemplation of nature, placing beauty at the heart of creation.
